Dear Students, Parents and Community Members of ESUSD:
Welcome to the Eastern Sierra Unified School District. As your Superintendent I invite you to be a participant in our school communities either by volunteering your time in many capacities or by attending the numerous events listed in our District calendar or on our website. Our District is committed to building academic rigor for all students in their quest to achieve excellence in all academic areas. In addition to preparing our students academically our District strives to prepare students that are responsible citizens in our community who are also life-long learners. Our schools are a vital link to our communities and we encourage everyone to take pride in our efforts.
As the Superintendent for the past two years I have had the privilege of leading the district as we continue to advance our mission of providing the best education for our students. From the outstanding educators who deliver quality instructional services at each of our schools to the dedicated district office personnel who help carry out day-to-day operations at all levels of the organization, the district is committed to promoting a learning environment in which all children succeed.
In the 2009-2010 school year, the district will focus specifically on instructional practices designed to improve every student's academic achievement. In our elementary schools all sites will be working on implementing "leveled curriculum" for our students. In our high schools, we are in the process of developing dual credit courses for our students so that they can begin receiving college credit as well as high school credit for some of the courses they take. It is our desire that by the second semester of this year we will be offering these types of courses for our students. Additionally, all of our sites will be developing curriculum designed to incorporate Service-Learning and the use of ePortfolios.
As your superintendent, I encourage you to be informed members of our communities and seek answers to your questions regarding our schools directly from the building principals or here at district office. Our goal is to nurture the whole child who will then become a contributing member to our communities in a positive manner. School pride, respect and achievement go hand-in hand. Let us all work as a team to achieve those goals.
In closing, I would like to encourage our parents to take part in their child's education by becoming a PTSO member, volunteering to be a mentor or participating in other school activities when possible.
Sincerely,
Don Clark, Ed.D.
